Alliance Provides Danica Patrick and No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet Guaranteed Starting Spot in 54th Annual Daytona 500

KANNAPOLIS, N.C., (Jan. 31, 2012) – Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) has entered into a collaborative partnership with Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) where TBR will field the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet Impala for all 10 of Danica Patrick’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in 2012.

The alliance guarantees a starting spot for Patrick in her Sprint Cup debut – the 54th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 26 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

TBR’s No. 36 car, which finished the 2011 season 33rd in points, becomes the No. 10 for 2012. For the 26 races where Patrick is not scheduled to drive, David Reutimann will pilot the No. 10 car. TBR has sponsorship inventory available for these 26 races.

“Tommy Baldwin Racing has proven to be a very strong organization and it’s a good fit with Stewart-Haas Racing,” said Matt Borland, vice president of competition, SHR. “It’s a Chevrolet team led by a racer who knows every inch of a racecar. That kind of technical expertise, along with a company mindset that is similar to ours, provides the ideal environment for Danica to learn and succeed.”

TBR was formed in 2009 and has matured from a single-car team to one that in 2012 will field two Sprint Cup entries and a NASCAR Nationwide Series entry. TBR is owned by Tommy Baldwin, who as a crew chief secured five victories, including the 2002 Daytona 500 with driver Ward Burton.

“We’re very proud of what we’ve established at Tommy Baldwin Racing, and the opportunity to partner with Stewart-Haas Racing and aid in the development of Danica Patrick is a testament to all the hard work we’ve put in over the years,” Baldwin said. “Danica will have a great teammate in Dave Blaney, who has been instrumental in getting our race team to where it is today. And with David Reutimann driving the No. 10 car in the races where Danica is not, the team will remain in a strong and competitive position throughout the year.”

The agreement means TBR will also work with GoDaddy.com, the world’s largest Web hosting provider and Patrick’s longtime sponsor.

“Go Daddy is a first-rate sponsor,” Baldwin added. “Look how they’ve supported Danica over the last six years. Go Daddy is a sponsor that knows how to get things done right.”

Baldwin will maintain a hands-on presence with the No. 10 car and will work closely with Greg Zipadelli, who serves as SHR’s director of competition. Baldwin and Zipadelli have similar backgrounds, as both grew up in the Northeast – Baldwin in Bellport, N.Y., and Zipadelli in Berlin, Conn. – and made a name for themselves as successful crew chiefs within the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour before rising up the ranks as crew chiefs in the elite Sprint Cup Series.

“Working with Tommy will be like old times,” Zipadelli said. “We both grew up together and competed against each other in Modifieds and we did the same thing when we got to Sprint Cup. To finally be able to work with each other and help Danica Patrick make a successful transition from Indy cars to stock cars is a challenge we’re both looking forward to.

“Partnering with Tommy and his team provides Danica with the foundation she needs to succeed. With a guaranteed starting spot, we can go into each weekend and simply learn. It’s all about getting her comfortable in the car, and with the variety of tracks she’s running, seat time will be incredibly valuable. A guaranteed spot in the race ensures that she’ll have the opportunity to make as many laps as possible.”

Patrick’s 10-race Sprint Cup schedule is as follows:

· Feb. 26: Daytona 500
· May 12: Darlington (S.C.) Raceway
· May 27: Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway
· Aug. 25: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway
· Sept. 2: Atlanta Motor Speedway
· Sept. 16: Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.
· Sept. 30: Dover (Del.) International Speedway
· Nov. 4: Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth
· Nov. 11: Phoenix International Raceway

One more race is still to be determined, with the plan being to assess Patrick’s development as the season progresses and then choose the remaining venue based on need and competitive reasoning.

“Our goal with Danica’s schedule is to try and maximize her 10 races so that she’s as prepared as she can possibly be for a full-time Sprint Cup schedule in 2013,” said Stewart, co-owner of SHR with Gene Haas, founder of Haas Automation – the largest machine tool builder in the western world. “There are short tracks, intermediate 1.5-mile ovals, and some unique tracks like Darlington and Phoenix. The point is to expose her to as many challenges as possible so that she’ll know what to expect in 2013.”

Ryan Truex to compete in season-opener at Daytona; Bobby Santos to run Daytona in July MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 25, 2012) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR)...

Ryan Truex to compete in season-opener at Daytona; Bobby Santos to run Daytona in July

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 25, 2012) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) expands NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) program with the addition of Ryan Truex and Bobby Santos, who will split driving duties with Ryan Blaney. Truex will compete in the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) February 25. Santos will race in the Subway Jalapeno 250 at DIS July 6. Blaney will run six NNS events with TBR, debuting April 27 at Richmond International Raceway.

Truex will make his first superspeedway start in the NNS season-opener. The 19-year-old racer made his NNS debut in 2010 at Gateway International Raceway and made 24 starts in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He compiled five top-10 finishes including a third-place finish at Kansas Speedway. Truex competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2009 and 2010 and won the championship both years with a top-10 average finish.

“I’m happy to be back in a racecar,” said Truex. “I was back and forth between teams last year, so it is nice to be in a car for the first race of this season. I’m excited about racing at a superspeedway. This is my first restrictor plate race and first start at Daytona. It’s something I’ve never done, but it looks like a lot of fun. Superspeedway racing is something I need to learn as I progress in my career. Hopefully, I can find myself a good partner to work with and have a good finish at the end.”

Santos has competed under the TBR Development banner since 2010. He competed in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) in 2010 and 2011 and won the championship in his first season in the series. The 26-year-old won the inaugural USAC National Pavement Sprint Car Series championship last season in a family-owned car. Santos made five starts in the NNS since 2007. His last start was at DIS February 2011 where he finished 17th in a JR Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet.

“I’m thrilled to compete in the Nationwide series again,” said Santos. “The Daytona race last year was a lot of fun. It was kind of a last minute deal, so I’m glad we’ll have some time to prepare for it this year. Tommy and Al have done a lot to help my career, and I appreciate them giving me this opportunity in the Nationwide Series.”

This season will mark TBR’s fourth season of competition. TBR began as a part-time one-car NSCS team in 2009 and developed into a top-35 team by 2011. In 2012, TBR plans to compete with two NSCS teams. The part time NNS team will expand on TBR’s driver development program in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The team would like to increase the number of races in both the NSCS and NNS schedules, provided more sponsorship can be found.

“We are really working hard to develop young talent,” explained owner Tommy Baldwin. “The Nationwide series is a great place for young drivers to learn the ropes and compete at the same tracks as the ‘Cup series. It is important to give these kids opportunities to showcase their talents for their future and for the future of TBR.”

Dave Blaney drove the No. 36 Chevrolet to TBR’s highest finish of third in the October 2011 event at Talladega Superspeedway.

Blaney will run a combined NASCAR Nationwide and K&N Series schedule

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 18, 2012) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) signed Ryan Blaney to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). The 18-year-old will get behind the wheel of the No. 36 SealWrap Repair Tape Chevrolet and compete in six events throughout the season with his debut set for April 27 at Richmond International Raceway. Blaney will also run six NASCAR K&N Pro Series (NKNPS) races in his family-owned DB Racing No. 10 SealWrap Repair Tape/Heavy Duty Industrial Services machine, beginning at Bristol Motor Speedway March 17, and Trent Owen will return as crew chief for the NKNPS car.

Blaney, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) and TBR driver Dave Blaney, made a combined three starts last season in the NKNPS East and West, winning in his third start and capturing his first NASCAR victory at Phoenix International Raceway. Blaney also won the 2011 PASS South Championship and found success in the ARCA Racing Series where he finished in the top-10 in his two starts.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to run a mix of K&N and Nationwide races this season,” Blaney commented. “We were really competitive in the K&N Series last year, and I think we will be even more competitive this year. Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to win all six races. We will have good equipment racing with TBR. It will be great to race with and learn from the Nationwide guys. To be able to race on bigger tracks will be a good learning experience too. I’m grateful that SealWrap is supporting my progression in NASCAR and really excited to work with them throughout the season.”

The team would like to increase the number of races in both the NSCS and NNS schedules, barring more sponsorship opportunities.

“We are really looking forward to restarting our Nationwide program as we have had much success in the past in that series,” explained Tommy Baldwin. “Watching Ryan the last few years, we are excited to get to the track and see him perform. As we look to the future, this Nationwide program is a stepping-stone for the Cup program, and we are excited to start with Ryan.”

Blaney will join his dad, Dave Blaney, with TBR this season. The elder Blaney drove the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet last season where he locked the team in to the top-35 in NSCS points and captured a third-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway.

“I’m proud that Ryan is making the next step in his racing career,” Dave Blaney said. “I think it is a great opportunity for him to run with TBR and still run some races in the K&N Series. He has learned very quickly in every series he has driven, so I am anticipating what competing in the Nationwide series brings. Thanks to SealWrap and Heavy Duty who have stepped up their programs as Ryan has moved through the ranks. It’s really refreshing to build a relationship with companies at this level and be able to grow together.”

SealWrap Repair Tape, a self-fusing rubber tape, partnered with Blaney in 2010 in the NKNPS. SealWrap Repair Tape uses a stretch-and-wrap technology that makes repairing irregular forms and shapes easy. There are no bonding agents, adhesives or glues to make it work. SealWrap fuses to itself and creates an air and watertight seal.

“Everyone at SealWrap is extremely excited to be involved with such a professional organization as Tommy Baldwin Racing,” said Don Lux, SealWrap National Sales Manager. “We have been and will continue to support Ryan Blaney in his racing career, and this sponsorship opportunity is a perfect way for us to continue doing that. Nationwide and K&N fans are our customers. They are hard working, do-it-yourselfers who use our SealWrap product around the house and on their cars and trucks. We here are SealWrap are passionate about our product and passionate about racing!”

Team still searching for funding for full season

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Tuesday, January 3, 2012) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) added NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) driver David Reutimann to the team’s 2012 driver lineup alongside Dave Blaney. Still seeking sponsorship for both Reutimann and Blaney, details regarding car number, sponsors and team members will follow in the upcoming weeks.

Reutimann, a Zephyrhills, Fla., native, made his first NSCS start in 2005. He competed in four full NSCS seasons with Michael Waltrip Racing and compiled two wins, 12 top-fives, 26 top-10s and four poles. The 41-year-old racer also competed in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series where he captured two wins.

“Tommy has built a really good organization from the ground up in a really short amount of time,” said Reutimann. “One of the things I like about Tommy and what’s refreshing about him is that he is just a racer. There are lots of things he could be doing but instead he is at the shop every day working hard to build the organization from the ground up. There are not a lot of true racers in the garage, and he is one of them. It’s the way I was raised with my Dad, so we are on the same page. I’m just really looking forward to the season and see what we can do.”

TBR competed in every event in the 36-race NSCS schedule in 2011 and raced into the top-35 in NSCS Owner Points, meeting the team’s 2011 season goals. Blaney drove to the team’s best finish of third in the October event at Talladega Superspeedway. The team also fielded a second car for five events in the second half of the season.

“Reutimann will be a great addition to our program and to Dave Blaney,” commented team owner Tommy Baldwin. “Last season, we met our goals of running the entire schedule and making the top-35 in points. This season, our goal is to continue our progress on the competition side. Having two veteran drivers in Reutimann and Blaney is a very important step in our program’s growth.”

“We are still working on finding funding for next year, but having a car guaranteed in the first five races, including the Daytona 500, is a big step for our team,” Baldwin continued. “We had success last year with our partners. Although Golden Corral will not return in 2012, they were very happy with the exposure they received. We hope they have shown other companies the value of our program and that our program will once again align with their business objectives.”

About Tommy Baldwin Racing:

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin formed Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) in 2009. Baldwin utilized a declining economy to open a NSCS team with a stringent budget. The team worked to build to full-time competition, and by the 2011 season, the team’s third season, TBR competed in every race and locked the No. 36 Chevrolet in the top-35 in NSCS Owner Points. Dave Blaney drove the No. 36 Chevrolet to TBR’s highest finish of third in the October 2011 event at Talladega Superspeedway. TBR also fielded a second car for select races in the past two seasons with multiple drivers.

Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the NSCS in 2012 with NASCAR veterans David Reutimann and Dave Blaney.

Dave Blaney will return to the No. 35 Golden Corral Chevrolet this weekend and attempt to qualify for the Kobalt Tools 500. This will mark Tommy Baldwin Racing’s (TBR) second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR).

TBR AT PHOENIX – TBR made starts in all five PIR events since the team’s inception in 2009.
Dave Blaney Quotes:

ON THE RACING AT PHOENIX – “I like going out to Phoenix. There was a good dirt track out there that we used to run, and we always had a good time there. We’ll be running one of my favorite cars, and I’m excited to keep working with Mike Shiplett. I’m also looking forward to seeing the new layout. All the notes from the past won’t matter; it will be a brand new track, so that helps to level the playing field a bit. I’m excited to see Ryan race on Saturday in the K&N race. He’s done well in the other two events he ran in that series, and I’m glad I’ll be there to see it.”

Tommy Baldwin Quotes:

ON THIS WEEKEND – “I’m excited for this weekend. We came here for the test a few weeks ago and made some strides. I really like the new layout. Hopefully, we can get both cars in the show like last week.”

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (November 7, 2011) – Dave Blaney qualified into the AAA Texas 500 in the No. 35 Big Red Chevrolet this weekend with the 35th-fastest qualifying time. He drove to the 31st position before a flat tire forced him to pit on lap 44. The flat tire caused the sway bar to break off the Chevrolet, and the Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) crew worked in the garage to fix it. Eleven laps later, Blaney returned to the track. Stuck on his own lap for the remainder of the 501-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Texas Motor Speedway, the No. 35 Big Red Chevrolet finished 35th, 18 laps down.

The Big Red team focused solely on qualifying trim runs during the first practice at the 1.5-mile racetrack, since they needed to qualify on time. Blaney posted the 38th-fastest lap. Fairly comfortable with the car’s handling, the team made minimal changes before qualifying. The No. 35 Big Red Chevrolet went out ninth for qualifying, and Blaney posted the 36th-fastest lap, fourth among the go-or-go home cars. During the second and final practice sessions on Saturday, he posted the 35th- and 33rd-fastest times respectively.

The No. 35 Big Red Chevrolet took the green flag for the AAA Texas 500 from the 36th position. Blaney drove to the 31st spot by lap 19 and radioed that the car was loose off the corner and needed to turn better.

As green-flag pit stops began, Blaney radioed that he had a flat tire and drove to pit road. The TBR team changed four tires and sent the No. 35 back out on the track. Just six laps later, Blaney pit again as he felt the same issue. He stopped on pit road, and the crew checked under the car to assess the issue. They decided to bring the car back to the garage to find and fix the problem. As the crew jacked up the car in the garage, they found that the bolt that attaches the sway bar to the car broke. They quickly reattached the sway bar and sent Blaney back on track 11 laps later.

Blaney returned to the track on lap 65 in the 38th position, 14 laps down. By lap 80, he radioed that the Chevrolet was struggling to turn in the center of the corner. Preparing for a pit stop, the Hartford, Ohio native told the Big Red crew that the car was manageable but loose off the corner. NASCAR Officials called a caution on lap 113 for debris, and Crew Chief Mike Shiplett called for the No. 35 to pit for four tires and chassis adjustments.

Staying out of trouble and utilizing the next 218 laps as a test session, Blaney and the Big Red crew worked to better the car’s handling. The team continued to improve the tight center, loose off condition as they made adjustments throughout the race. The No. 35 moved up three spots in the final 200 laps as teammate Geoffrey Bodine was spun and could not finish the race, Joey Logano had an engine failure and Jamie McMurray had mechanical issues. The Big Red Chevrolet finished 35th in the 501-mile event.

Blaney is still 32nd in NSCS Driver Points. He is 77 points ahead of Andy Lally and trailing Casey Mears by 30 points.

“The car wasn’t bad at the end of the race; we were just too many laps down from the sway bar problem,” explained Blaney. “The adjustments the guys made today helped with the handling and that will help in Homestead in a few weeks. Since we were on our own lap, we could throw some significant changes at it and see how it affected the car. Now, we head to Phoenix. We have done pretty well at short tracks this season, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Blaney will have to qualify the No. 35 Golden Corral Chevrolet into the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (November 7, 2011) – Geoffrey Bodine started the AAA Texas 500 from the 42nd position. He drove his No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet into the 37th spot before Brian Vickers got into the rear of the Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) machine, sending Bodine spinning. The crew tried to fix the damage, but by lap 230, the No. 36 retired from the race due to a vibration. The team finished 38th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event.

Locked into the race, the Luke & Associates team focused mainly on race runs in all three practice sessions. Bodine posted the 46th-, 42nd- and 43rd-fastest times in the practice sessions, respectively. He posted the 46th-quickest time in time trials on Friday but was locked into the 501-mile event by owner points of the No. 36 TBR Chevrolet.

Bodine took the green flag from the 42nd starting spot. He worked up to 40th by lap 19 and told the crew that the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet was loose. By lap 30, Bodine fell one lap down while in the 38th position. Crew chief Philippe Lopez called the New York native down pit road on lap 44 for a four-tire pit stop and chassis adjustments. Fifteen laps later, Bodine felt a vibration and Lopez brought the No. 36 in a four-tire pit stop on lap 61. As he drove back onto the track, Bodine was caught for speeding and had to drive the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet down pit road for a pass-through penalty.

On lap 70, Bodine ran in the 37th position, four laps down. Looking to get valuable experience in the new car, he worked with the TBR crew to find a comfortable balance for the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet. On lap 100, he drove down pit road for another four-tire pit stop and an air pressure adjustment. By lap 111, Bodine radioed that the car felt the best it did all day. Continuing to work on the car and get more comfortable, Bodine pit for four tires and air pressure adjustments on laps 150 and 193.

Unfortunately on lap 201, Brian Vickers spun the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet on the backstretch. Bodine saved the car but had some damage on the right, front of the Chevrolet. He drove down pit road for the team to fix the damage. Trying to salvage a decent finish the team tried to use tape to fix the damage to no avail. Lopez called for the team to cut away the damaged part of the car and make sure nothing rubbed the tire. Bodine parked behind the pit wall and the No. 36 team got to work.

By lap 213, the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet returned to the track, but just 15 laps later, Bodine felt a vibration. The crew changed four tires and checked the damage on the car. Nothing looked to be rubbing, so they sent Bodine back out on the track. A few laps later, he got back on the radio and described the same issue. TBR Owner Tommy Baldwin called for Bodine to drive the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet into the garage. The team found the damage to be terminal, and the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet finished 38th.

The No. 36 team fell to 33rd in the NSCS Owners Point Standings. The team is 28 points ahead of the No. 32 and seven points behind the No. 13. They are locked into the top-35 by 55 points.

“I had a great time getting used to these new cars,” Bodine said. “I feel like our whole team learned a lot, and I definitely feel more comfortable in the car. It is a shame we couldn’t finish the race, but I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to get some very good seat time. I’m excited to head into Phoenix next weekend.”

Bodine will pilot the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet in the Kobalt Tools 500 this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway.

TEAM SWAP – TBR drivers Blaney and Geoffrey Bodine will swap numbers and crews starting this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway in an effort to continue to build TBR and give the team the best chance to qualify both cars for Sunday’s event. Dave Blaney will drive the No. 35 Big Red Chevrolet and attempt to qualify for the AAA Texas 500. Geoffrey Bodine will pilot the No. 36 Luke & Associates Chevrolet and is guaranteed a starting spot in Sunday’s 501-mile race.

TBR AT TEXAS – TBR made two starts at the Fort Worth track. Earlier this season, Blaney started 38th and finished 30th. In 2009, Michael McDowell qualified the No. 36 Chevrolet 37th and finished 41st.

BODINE AT TEXAS – Bodine made three starts at the 1.5-mile racetrack. In his debut, he started seventh and finished 14th. His last start at the speedway was in March 1999.

LUKE AND ASSOCIATES – This weekend will mark the second start for Luke & Associates as a primary sponsor.

TWO CHANCES FOR KIDS TO EAT FREE – Bodine will join Blaney in his season-long effort to tally top-10 finishes.
Geoffrey Bodine Quotes:

ON THE RACING AT TEXAS – “I’m excited to be locked into the race this weekend. This will give me the opportunity to get some solid seat time. I thank Dave for being willing to swap numbers and crews to give me that opportunity. Texas is a fun and fast track, and I am excited to compete this weekend.”

Tommy Baldwin Quotes:

ON THE SWITCH – “With Dave’s experience qualifying these new cars the last few years, we felt like swapping teams was best for our partners and will give us the best opportunity to get both cars in the field. We appreciate all that Dave has done this year to help the team meet our goal of finishing in the top-35 in owner points and that he has been a team player all year. Geoff hasn’t had a lot of seat time in these new Cup cars, which makes qualifying for these races even harder. I have faith in Geoff to get it done on Sunday and being able to focus on race day will reduce his learning curve.”
