Road-Course Specialist Ron Fellows to Lead TBR at Watkins Glen

August 4, 2010

MOORESVILLE, N.C., 08/3/10 – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) has announced that former Corvette Racing veteran Ron Fellows will drive the No. 36 Chevrolet Impala this weekend at Watkins Glen International. Fellows, who has earned three top-5 Sprint Cup finishes and three Nationwide victories at Watkins Glen, is one of the best road-course racers in the sport.

“Having Ron in the car this weekend, with his incredible experience and talents, will definitely help us get our road-course program headed in the right direction,” said team owner Tommy Baldwin. “I would like to thank Chevrolet for helping put this together and I look forward to a great weekend.”

A longtime sports car and road-racing veteran, Fellows is credited with three class championships in the American Le Mans Series, two class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and 19 overall victories in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am Series as a member of the Corvette Racing Team. His NASCAR credentials include six overall wins (two in the Camping World Truck Series), and two runner-up finishes in Sprint Cup competition. With his four Nationwide Series victories, he also has seven top-fives, eight top-10s and two poles in 15 starts.

“I look forward to a successful weekend with TBR – one of NASCAR’s true up-and-coming teams,” said Fellows. “Our hope is that a good run will lead to additional exposure and opportunities for TBR and its sponsors, whether supporting us this weekend or beyond.”

  1. You guys have a good shot to win this one!

  2. Great I love rooting for you guys, but understand that you don’t have the resources to race with the biggest teams week in and week out. But, with Ron Fellows, you guys become instant contenders. Just get him a decent engine and some cool brakes, plus get out of sequence around the middle of the race. so that last pit stop is on your terms. BTW always loved watching Tom Sr. race at Thompson Speedway. Go TBR. Good Luck!

  3. dont matter anyway. he is a start & park anyway. he’ll park within 10 laps.

  4. Hey Mary. You are a fool. Tommy already said they were running the whole race this weekend. Your negativity is ill founded and unwanted. Don’t comment here again.

  5. Mary, Do you know who Ron Fellows is? You probably are a fan come lately.

  6. What a great pick up for me with second to last pick in my Race Pool this week! Thanks for putting this together at the last minute. I got Ron Fellows with the 34th pick this week. Fellows can make any team better on a road coarse!

  7. Great News! I have been to Watkins Glen many times and have always rooted for Ron. It was tough to see him finish second in a Cup car. Maybe this time he’ll win, since he has already won in Trucks and Busch there.

  8. Ron Fellows looked good today, Tony Ave however was very weak. I hope Ron smokes the 26 and 38 tomorrow…….

  9. are they gonna be running the whole race?

  10. let mears go now how many times can he leave u u have alot of people rooting for u tbr enough is enough hes not that great anyway

  11. This weekend at the Glen TBR needed to produce a capable handling car that would allow Fellows to utilize his road racing ability and the power generated by an ECR engine, it was not to be.
“I couldn’t maintain the pace. The car was just flopping around too much.” said, Fellows.
This was obviously a disappointing end to a promising weekend. TBR had the power to compete and this weekend they had a highly regarded road course specialist to pilot the 36 car. Friday, I enjoyed seeing the 36 in the top 10 during practice. I was hoping to see sizeable improvement in practice #2 but was still happy with the modest gains TBR achieved. I was slightly disappointed the 36 qualified outside the top twenty though. Ron Fellows and ECR power outside the top twenty, something was a miss. Still, they could’ve learned something during qualifying. Sunday however revealed the true story. Fellows fought an ill handling car until he was spun out by Regan Smith. Off went the TV, didn’t care about the race, all I knew is my guy had a chance to have a good possibly real good weekend and didn’t.
I know TBR feels it missed a golden oppourtunity to show potential sponsors just what TBR can do. However, the TBR team probably accumulated some valuable information this weekend which will only enhance their road racing program going foward.
This weekend things were pretty exciting for a while. I look foward to to experiencing the same excitement on Sunday’s.
What’s happening at Mich this weekend, I know Mears is entered but is TBR racing or S&P.
