Manpower to Horsepower Logo on the No. 36 in Martinsville
MARTINSVILLE, VA. (April 1, 2011) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) is pleased to announce support of Manpower to Horsepower through a campaign leading up to Memorial Day Weekend. Manpower to Horsepower, a disabled veteran’s vocational rehabilitation program, will have the organization logo on the No. 36 ALL SPORT Body Quencher Chevrolet beginning at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. TBR and Manpower to Horsepower will work together in the upcoming weeks to show support to members of the military with the culmination of the partnership to include festivities during Memorial Day Weekend.
With approval from the Veteran’s Administration, Manpower to Horsepower is an accredited program through the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and offers a certificate program in Motorsports Management Technology for military veterans with physical disabilities. Manpower to Horsepower began with the creation of a handicap-accessible ride-along dirt car developed by Sue Roberson and SMP Motorsports. With support from the USO of N.C., Manpower to Horsepower campaigned to expand the program to include hands-on training at the SMP Motorsports shop located in Mooresville, N.C.
“I am thrilled that TBR came on board to help Manpower to Horsepower and give the program national exposure,” said Manpower to Horsepower founder Sue Roberson. “This program is very dear to my heart. We have worked hard to get it off the ground, and I am so proud that we will start the vocational school this year. I’m excited to work together with TBR to provide veteran-specific activities during Memorial Day weekend.”
Tommy Baldwin Racing has overcome adversity in the first five races of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and is fighting for a spot inside the top-35 in owner points. The team’s best finish came at Bristol Motor Speedway when Blaney drove the No. 36 Accell Construction Chevrolet to a 25th-place finish. The TBR team also had a strong run in the Daytona 500 where the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet ran up front and led laps before a late-race incident ended the team’s day early.
“Not too long ago, our team was just starting out,” explained TBR owner Tommy Baldwin. “To see where we have come since 2009 is just amazing. Sue has a great new program, and we are happy to help build a new program as well as support our Nation’s veterans. Both of our programs are working to find funding to be able to run and working together seemed to be a natural progression. We feel that as a team our program allows very unique marketing opportunities as well as providing support to veterans.”
Look for the Manpower to Horsepower logo on track this weekend in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Dave Blaney will attempt to qualify the No. 36 ALL SPORT Body Quencher Chevrolet Saturday, April 2nd and race at 1 p.m. EST Sunday, April 3rd.
About Tommy Baldwin Racing:
Tommy Baldwin Racing was formed in 2009 by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin. Baldwin utilized a slumping economy to open a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team for a fraction of the cost. The team competed in two full seasons with multiple drivers behind the wheel of the No. 36 Chevrolet and improved in the standings each year.
Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the full NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule in 2011 with NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney piloting the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet. Looking to improve on-track performance and increase the number of races they complete, TBR is still seeking partners to support their racing efforts. TBR’s driver development program, Heinke-Baldwin Racing, will also compete in various NASCAR series in 2011.
