Tommy Baldwin has a proven record as a crew chief. He is the son of NASCAR Modified Champion and Legend Tom Baldwin. Growing up, Tommy worked as crew chief for his father’s team and quickly developed solid groundwork to become a successful crew chief. Throughout his early years, Tommy and his pit crew won many pit crew contests.

Tommy worked his way up the NASCAR ranks when he landed a crew chief job with Junie Donlavey in 1997 and then with Bill Davis Racing (BDR) in 1998. While at BDR, he won the prestigious Daytona 500 in 2002 with driver Ward Burton. Following his work with BDR, he went on to work at Evernham Motorsports, Robert Yates Racing and Ultra Motorsports.

In 2003, Tommy got his feet wet on the ownership side of racing and opened a NASCAR Nationwide Series team with fellow Long Island native Eddie D’Hondt. The team was sold to Evernham Motorsports in 2004.

In 2009, Tommy utilized the economic fall to build his own NASCAR Sprint Cup team Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR). Tommy saw an opportunity to build a team with established crew members who had been laid off due to the economy. Utilizing Tommy’s experience as a crew chief and little overhead, TBR continues to work to establish TBR as a staple in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

In December 2009, the New York native expanded his team ownership to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Super DIRTcar Series, as he partnered with Al Heinke to develop Heinke-Baldwin Racing (HBR). Currently, HBR has two teams running full-time in the Super DIRTcar Series and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, as well as a development driver running a full schedule in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
