CHARLOTTE, N.C., 04/13/10 – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) has tapped Johnny Sauter to drive the No. 36 Wave Energy Drink Chevrolet for this weekend’s Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The race will mark Sauter’s first time behind the wheel of the No. 36, which was driven by Mike Bliss for the season’s first seven NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.
Sauter has driven the No. 35 TBR Chevy in three races in 2010, including last week at Phoenix International Raceway, where he finished 41st after qualifying in the 37th position. Sauter will also take control of the No. 36 for next week’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.
“I’m excited about having Johnny in the No. 36 for the next couple of races and look forward to seeing what he can do,” said team owner Tommy Baldwin. “He has been strong at Texas, especially in the Truck series, and I’m confident he can give us a solid performance in the Sprint Cup car. We will have him for a couple of races here before he will need to focus on his Truck Series team, and we hope to have a full-time driver for the No. 36 named here in the near future,” he added.
Sauter, a 31-year old native of Necedah, Wisconsin, has over 300 starts across the top three NASCAR Series with a career record of four wins and 68 top-ten finishes. In 2009, Sauter finished sixth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and recorded one win, seven top-5s and 13 top-ten finishes on the season.

i think johnny sauter will be a good fit for that 36 ride good luck to all
I hope Tommy is finally thinking of Dave Blaney. And I hope if tapped Blaney brings Henderson over with him, they work well together.
PLEASE Tommy, please hire Carl Long as the new driver.
There is no one in the garage currently that is more deserving of a full-time ride.
Nor will you find another driver that is so good with promoting sponsors and to top it off he has a HUGE fan following.
Please Tommy..consider Steve Park for your driver. Thank you, Trish and Doug Pahle
what above steve park
How about putting Dave Blaney in the #36? He will get the job done for you.His talent is being wasted doing the start & park thing.
Thanks for your time,
Ray Hamski
Bailey North Carolina
Dave Blaney would be my pick…he’s very good at qualifing, but wasted talent being a start & park.
I wish Johnny well, but I have to agree…WHAT ABOUT STEVE PARK? You’ve been talking for years about getting together. You know he can give you great feedback. And he’s a qualifier.
Come on, give it a shot…maybe Darlington? Or Charlotte? The time is right, Tommy, give him a call.
Dave Blaney is by far the best qualifier and sportsman in Nascar, Tommy knows this of course so maybe they can hook up and catch a WAVE to the finish line.
johnny sauter hasn’t had a good oppurtuinity since the rcr #30 car, give him a shot, but how about the development driver jimmy phelps, or erick rudolph. would love to see new york natives steve park, geoff bodine or veteren dave blaney…
Well all the drivers being named are good guys, but I have to agree Dave Blaney is by far the best out there and without a question has the biggest fan base of any of these Drivers as well.
Call Him up Tommy! I can get you the number!
I don’t think Jimmy Spencer is working right now. You guys are already familar with each other from the 7 car.
Absolutly,Dave Blaney.
Dave Blaney best driver available. Maybe for Talladega I’d think about Mike Wallace. I believe it is too late for that now. Dace Blaney the best driver available no doubt.
You sure seem to be going through a lot of drivers
Wow– 5 weeks and you dump a driver that has proven himself given any kind of decent equipment. My hope is that Wave Energy dumps you just as fast as you dump drivers!
Best wishes to TBR & Johnny. Johnny deserves his chane, he did a good job qualifing the #35 TBR car last week.
How about Scott Wimmer for the #35 ride.
Blaney is a good choice but I do not see Phil Parsons letting him go.
That leaves Carl Long!
Like I said, no-one out there is more deserving of a full-time ride.
Blaney starts 24th at Texas….Sauter starts 46th……..!
Gary,
Blaney is in a good car. A fast car that Phil won’t let him run. It is a real shame that Phil won’t let any of his drivers run full races. He is a money hoarding monkey Theif. Has no right to do what he does. Co-owned 4 race teams and won’t let even 1 of them have a chance for a good run.
The 66 and even the 55 can win races if they tried.
Sauter’s car has been put through the paces a few times. It isn’t a new car or a new motor so it has some wear. Its not a knock on TBR but the car just wasn’t as good.
You sure go through a lot of drivers. Perhaps the problem is not with the drivers but the technical crew and management behind it.
Skinner, Carpentier, McDowell, Bliss and now Sauter who doesn’t make the reace.
Need I say more.
Johnny is a great driver. You should bring his crew cheif from his truck team Joe Shear and give them the rest of the year together. I bet next year would be a great year and would be in the top 25 in points. Johnny is the most underated driver. Week in and week out in the truck series he is the only one who can keep up with Kyle Bush and Kevin Harvick.
U all are kidding right!! Sauter doesnt even qualify for the race and Bliss gets into a totally different car and and at least qualifies!!!!!! U racing experts do not have a clue!!!!!!!! Give Bliss a decent car and he will get into the race. If you could get him a mediocre car he will get you a top 25 finish!!!!!!! Look at his results!!! When was the last time Sauter or Blaney won a Nascar Championship???????????????????????
Why dont you all go back to school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A blind squirell get a acorn now and then….lol
