Tommy Baldwin Racing is led by former NASCAR Cup Series owner Tommy Baldwin Jr.
As a former Daytona 500 winning crew chief with Ward Burton in 2002, and NASCAR Cup Series owner for over a decade, Baldwin is no stranger to success at high levels. He is currently the Competition Director for Rick Ware Racing.
With a passion for Modified racing that roots back to his father and the 7NY, Baldwin has grown a powerhouse asphalt Modified team that had a dream year in 2022 and went back to Victory Lane again in 2023 and in 2024.
Driver Luke Baldwin captured the SMART Modified Tour title in 2024 with Sadler-Stanley Racing in his Rookie season on the SMART campaign, driving the Pace-O-Matic No. 7VA.
With four different drivers, the 2022 team won the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour owners championship on the heels of five victories in sixteen events, with three different drivers. Doug Coby, a six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion himself, steered the car to three wins (Riverhead, Lee & Langley), while Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett, one of the most well-known Modified drivers in New Jersey, rocketed to a win at his home track, Wall Stadium Speedway. Young Mike Christopher Jr. also scored his first career series win at Jennerstown Speedway.
On the SMART Modified Tour, rising star Caleb Heady scored the series championship in 2022 as a driver, also winning the owners title for the team. Heady went to Victory Lane early in the season, then bested names like NASCAR Hall of Fame member Bobby Labonte and others to win the series title down the stretch to clinch the crown. Early in the year, the team also won the New Smyrna Speedway World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing championship with Blewett at the wheel in 2022.
Throughout the 2022 season, all four drivers also competed in Open Modified events for the team, with Christopher scoring multiple Outlaw Open Modified Series wins at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in Connecticut, and the others scoring impressive finishes. In more than 30 races during the season, the team won races often, clinched championships and competed up and down the East Coast.
However, the 2022 season wasn't just a random spark of success. It's been growing for many seasons. Baldwin has been fielding Modifieds for decades, but has pursued it more deeply recently. He had eventual 2022 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Jon McKennedy drive the car on the Tour for multiple years. During the span, McKennedy scored his first career Tour win at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Over the years, Baldwin has fielded cars in Modified racing for some of the top names in the sport.
Prior to moving to a heavy Modified schedule of late, Baldwin was a frequent member of the NASCAR National Series garage, including in the NASCAR Cup Series. Early in his career as crew chief, Baldwin worked with Greg Sacks, Dick Trickle and others, before jumping to the front with Ward Burton as part of Bill Davis Racing. The combination won the 2002 Daytona 500 -- one of the biggest wins of Baldwin's racing career. After multiple wins with Burton, Baldwin worked with Kasey Kahne as part of Ray Evernham Racing, winning together. He also worked with Michael Waltrip, Elliott Sadler, Dave Blaney and others in his Cup Series career prior to 2010.
In 2009, Baldwin was listed as owner for the first time in his NASCAR Cup Series career with Patrick Carpentier, and the veteran owned a team through racing in 2020 with at least select events in many of the years. The team competed in full-time efforts with Dave Blaney, Michael Annett, J.J. Yeley, Reed Sorenson, Regan Smith and even current Hendrick Motorsports star Alex Bowman. In 10 years as a car owner on NASCAR's top circuit, Baldwin competed in over 400 races. His crew chief stats in the Cup Series also show five victories. Baldwin also dabbled as owner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, giving now Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece some of his first National Series opportunities in 2013 and 2014.
Baldwin's history in racing certainly was started through his family and his father, Tom "Tiger" Baldwin. As a multiple-time race winner himself, Tiger Tom raced for over 35 years. Prior to his passing in 2004, Tiger Tom made the No. 7NY famous in Modified racing. And now, Tommy Baldwin Jr. is continuing the built legacy.
Baldwin and his dedicated team of Modified professionals are excited to continue in the asphalt Modified ranks, showcasing a mix of youth rising talent and polish veterans driving the No. 7NY.
