Mayhew Tools 7NY Ready For Round Four of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Season
Race Advance by Souza Media MILFORD, Conn. – One year ago, Doug Coby and Tommy Baldwin Racing paired together for the first time in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour action, and went to Victory Lane right away. They pulled off the feat at Riverhead Raceway – a track in New York that has a special meaning for Baldwin and the history of the No. 7NY. This Sunday, the combination returns to Riverhead for the fourth race of the Whelen Modified Tour season, with Mayhew Tools on the side, set for 200 laps, with a green flag of 2:45 p.m. Originally scheduled for Saturday, NASCAR elected to move the race due to impending weather, with a much earlier start time set for Sunday afternoon. Coby and the team are coming off a win in the Whelen Modified Tour at Monadnock Speedway on May 6 and a third-place finish in the Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway on May 13 in their last two events together. The six-time series champion feels like they are heading in a positive direction each time they hit the track. “There are some adjustments we’ve been able to make that are coming into play to help my driving style and help me so I am comfortable and able to manage the race,” Coby said. “Tommy is learning more and more of my driving style and it’s helping us a lot as we continue to build that relationship you need between the crew chief and the driver. We were good at Riverhead all three times last year – and even though we only won the first one – I have confidence going back there in our car and what we will have. I’m really happy with our last few races and excited to see where all of our work takes us going forward.” Fans can keep up with all of the action from Riverhead by following Doug Coby Racing on Facebook and Tommy Baldwin Racing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The race itself, set for 200-laps, will air live on FloRacing.TV at 2:45 p.m. For more information on Doug Coby, visit DougCobyRacing.com and follow his page on Facebook for the latest news and updates, including from the track on race day.

Third-Place Result for Mayhew Tools 7NY in Prestigious 51st Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler
Race Recap by Souza Media STAFFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby wrapped a busy two days at his home track, Stafford Motor Speedway, with a strong third-place finish in the 51st annual NAPA Spring Sizzler on Saturday evening, May 13. Coby finished sixth in Friday’s NAPA Duel qualifying race, placing him just outside the top-10 for the drop of the green flag in Saturday’s 100-lap, $20,000 to win race. Coby chased his way to the top-five early, getting there by lap 25. He passed for fourth spot on lap 35, then set charges on the others, but elected to pit on lap 44 during a caution period, dropping to the back. From there, the charge was on – but Coby ended up in the lead after a caution on lap 65 when others pitted. He would hold the top-spot until lap 73, when eventual race winner Ron Silk made the move around. Coby would relinquish second a few laps later to Woody Pitkat, and settle for a solid third-place finish in the Mayhew Tools, Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY. “Crazy weekend for us,” Coby said. “We got bent up in the Duel and had a lot of strategy to figure out in the race after having to use one of our feature tires in the Duel. It was really greasy on the track, so we decided to pit early, thinking it would be tough to pass, but it just didn’t work out exactly right. To come home P3, we’re really happy to be here at the Sizzler – such an awesome event put on by the Arute family.” Doug Coby and the Mayhew Tools, Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY team will return to competition at Riverhead Raceway in the fourth race of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season on Saturday, May 20. The 200-lap event will go green at 8 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV. Race Preview by Souza Media MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby grew up racing at Stafford Motor Speedway, and as a two-time track champion, he also has four NAPA Spring Sizzler wins. As one of the most prestigious races in all of Modified racing, the Sizzler still stands tall today. This week, May 12-13, Coby will pilot the Tommy Baldwin Racing, Mayhew Tools 7NY at Stafford in the 51st annual NAPA Spring Sizzler. Coby is driving full-time for Tommy Baldwin Racing on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2023. The combination won multiple races together in 2022 in their first year working together, and led laps in all three NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races out of the gates in 2023. They are heading into Stafford fresh off a dominating win in the Duel at the Dog at Monadnock Speedway last weekend. Coby’s previous Sizzler wins came in 2006, 2012, 2016 and 2019 with three different car owners, all in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition. He’s excited to try and grab a Sizzler win in the new Open Modified format – one that includes heat races, a 40-lap qualifying race and the 100-lap, $20,000 to win main event spread between Friday and Saturday. “It’s a cool deal with how the Spring Sizzler has evolved from where it first started to where it is right now,” Coby said. “They’ve added so many financial incentives to the event and a lot of coverage around it. Even though I do have four Sizzler wins, this is a totally different ball game with heats, duel races, different engine packages... It’s not the Sizzler I won before. It requires a different mindset and strategy to be able to win. It will be a challenge to win it with all the top drivers that will be there.” Coby won a Pro Stock and Late Model championship at Stafford in the late 1990s. Since then, he also has six NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championships. He scored 12 of his 34 career Tour wins at Stafford in 61 starts. He currently sits 18th on the track all-time wins list with 31 career wins at the Connecticut half-mile. Racing at Stafford Motor Speedway will take place on both Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13. On Friday, Coby and the team will compete in practice, a heat race and a 40-lap qualifying race. On Saturday, the 100-lap, $20,000 to win race stands in front of the team. Race Recap by Souza Media WINCHESTER, N.H. – Doug Coby wasn’t going to leave any questions about who was going to win in the final laps of the third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the season Saturday at Monadnock Speedway. Coby pulled away after dominating the Duel at the Dog 200 and rocketed to his 35th career Whelen Modified Tour victory and second career at Monadnock driving the Mayhew Tools No. 7NY. The win was the first of the season for the six-time series champion, as Coby and the team began a busy stretch of four races in four weeks in Victory Lane. And they did it in dominating fashion – leading the most laps and cruising to the checkered flag. “We had a dominant car here today,” Coby said. “Tommy Baldwin brought some great adjustments here to try in practice since we weren’t happy with our performance last year, and we ended up going back to his first setup for the race. I’ll tell you what – I’ve won at big tracks, but it’s the little one’s that mean the most and really make me think of my roots and where I started. These quarter-mile tracks are so tough to win at… it was a great day for all of us on the Mayhew Tools team.” Doug Coby and the Tommy Baldwin Racing, Mayhew Tools team will return to racing on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 at Stafford Motor Speedway for the NAPA Spring Sizzler 100. The $20,000 to win race will have 40-lap Duel qualifying races on Friday night and the feature on Saturday afternoon, all live on FloRacing.TV. Mayhew Tools 7NY Ready For Round Three of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Season
Race Advance By Souza Media MILFORD, Conn. – Starting a stretch of four races in four weeks, Monadnock Speedway’s Duel at the Dog 200 is on deck for Doug Coby. The Mayhew Tools, Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY returns to competition on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour this Saturday, May 6 with 200 laps in the Duel at the Dog. It’s the third Whelen Modified Tour race of the season for 2023. Coby and the team finished fifth in the opener at New Smyrna in February, leading 106 laps and 13th at Richmond Raceway in March, leading 27 laps, sidelined from a chance to win with a mechanical issue in the final laps. Coby’s career at Monadnock includes a victory in 2015, as part of a championship season with Mike Smeriglio Racing. In eight starts at Monadnock, Coby has seven top-10 finishes. Last year, Coby drove Baldwin’s entry in the Monadnock event to a top-five finish. The 200-lap event on Saturday is part of the Duel at the Dog weekend, which includes 13 divisions over two days. All of the racing will air live on FloRacing.TV. “We need to be better than we were at Monadnock last year,” Coby said. “We’ve been working on it leading into the race. We’re a bit disappointed with the results in the first two races of our season because we feel like we had dominant cars in both races at times of the race and just didn’t put it all together. It’s going to be a busy stretch coming up with a lot of short track races. We need to make sure our program is on its game to be able to compete with everyone else and that starts with this weekend at Monadnock. We’re looking forward to getting up there with the Mayhew Tools team.” Saturday’s event includes one practice from 12:20-1:20 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 2:30 p.m. and the green flag for 200 laps at 5 p.m. Following Monadnock, Coby, Baldwin and the Mayhew Tools team will roll to Stafford Motor Speedway for the NAPA Spring Sizzler on May 12-13, then Riverhead Raceway for 200 laps with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on May 20. The team will finish off the month of May with the Whelen Modified Tour at Lee USA Speedway on May 27. Monadnock’s race is the first of three in the Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup – a three-race series with extra incentive for Whelen Modified Tour teams, put together by event promoters JDV Productions.
